This weekend the Lotusphere 2009 event (aka LS09) in Orlando Florida started for the 16th time. Anyone in the IBM cloud knows Lotusphere but for people outside that circle Southpark was kind enough to do a special (great line: a free backpack for the yellow crap yohooo!). 

We thought this would be a perfect time to launch a new product called Content Mobilizer for BlackBerry (CoMo for the insiders). CoMo makes it very easy to bring any kind of back-office application to your BlackBerry. Mobilize Content so to speak. If you like to learn more you should check out this two-pager pdf.

Lotus Connections is typically an application that contains content you would like to access from your BlackBerry. It contains people profiles (think LinkedIn), blogs (think blogs), dogears (think delicou.us) and more...

We've configured a free (for now) version of Content Mobilizer to access your Lotus Connections sites and just for the reason of showing off some extra we've thrown an extra tab with live Google news.

Restrictions you need to know: this software only runs on BlackBerry handhelds with software version 4.2 or better. For now you can only access Lotus Connection sites that are accessible from the internet. For instance:

• http://www.bleedyellow.com/ (authentication type LTPA)
• https://greenhouse.lotus.com/ (authentication type LTPA)

Unified Communications wordt denk ik wel 'the buzz' van 2007. Zowel Microsoft als nu ook IBM en RIM zijn er druk mee bezig. Bij Microsoft moet je je dan voorstellen dat producten zoals Exchange / Windows Mobile / Sharepoint / Live Communication Server / PBX-en aan elkaar worden geknoopt. Hierdoor wordt het plaats, tijd en device onafhankelijk communiceren werkelijkheid. Momenteel is de Lotusphere aan de gang en dat zijn de momenten om samenwerkingen en nieuwe producten te introduceren. Zo ook de verdere samenwerking tussen IBM en RIM op het vlak van Unified Communications. Deze twee partijen zijn druk bezig hun producten (BES/BlackBerryDomino/Sametime/pbx-en) in elkaar te schuiven. Het was al mogelijk om een sametime chat-sessie op te kunnen starten vanaf je BlackBerry. Daaraan zijn nu enkele nieuwe features toegevoegd:

• convert to call, vanuit een chat kan je dan omschakelen naar een groeps telefoongesprek
• click to map, op basis van chat-sessie de locatie van een persoon bepalen.
• Domino discussion databases, RIM heeft een aantal templates ontwikkeld waarmee Domino discussie databases vanaf de BlackBerry benaderd kunnen worden.

Ieder jaar wordt er voor de Lotus Domino community een groot congres georganiseerd in Orlando. Dit geel/blauwe Lotus/IBM feestje heet de Lotusphere. Gedurende 5 dagen wordt je ondergedompeld (noem het verdronken) in Domino technology. Op dergelijke evenementen kom je ook behoorlijk wat BlackBerries tegen. Een handige viewer van al die sessies op je BlackBerry is dan ook wel handig. Deze applicatie van Turtle Partnerships is niet sexy maar wel erg prachtisch.

In Domino bestaat sinds dag 0 de mogelijkheid om op basis van ingebouwde public/private key methodiek (lees: entry in Name & Address Book en .ID file) mail encrypted te versturen. Vaak zie je dat bedrijven deze feature standaard aanzetten op al het (interne) mailverkeer. Als je encrypted mail ontvangt op je BlackBerry kon je er niets mee, je hebt namelijk een .ID file nodig om de informatie te decrypten. Met de nieuwe versie 4.1 BlackBerry desktop manager software bestaat de mogelijkheid om je ID file te importeren in je mailfile. Dat doe je via de Desktop Manager software of via de iNotes interface (volg de opties Preferences, Security  en klik op Import Notes ID). Als je nu een encrypted mail ontvangt op je BlackBerry moet je de eerste keer dat je het bericht opent je Lotus Domino password op je BlackBerry invoeren.

Belangrijk gegeven: deze feature maakt gebruik van Domino 7 API's.

IBM/Lotus Domino dood? No way! e-office heeft daarom een weblog gestart waar de meest up-to-date informatie is te vinden over dit product en gerelateerde producten zoals Sametime.

Altijd leuk om software uit de oude doos weer eens terug te zien. Uit de tijd dat een de Lotus Notes server nog op MS Dos 3.1 draaide en op een klein stapeltje floppen kon. De installer van Domino 7 beta is ruim 700 Mb dus er is een hoop veranderd...

Vandaag is de beta 3 van IBM/Lotus Domino 7 beschikbaar gekomen. Dat is geen toevalligheid, deze week is ook de LotusPhere aan de gang en daar hoort iets dergelijks natuurlijk bij. Research In Motion heeft op hetzelfde evenement meteen maar gemeld dat ze ook Domino 7 gaan ondersteunen.

Een leuke creatieve dienst waarbij weblog gerelateerde techniek wordt toegepast in een andere context: je agenda beschikbaar stellen via RSS (xml gebaseerde) feeds.

De oplossing staat helaas nog los van je corporate agenda in Domino of Exchange maar het brengt me wel op ideetjes. Klik op het logo voor deze online dienst.

Het bedrijf SCALIX denkt iets totaal nieuws ontwikkeld te hebben: een messaging platform op UNIX. Geen idee waarom een bedrijf hiervoor zou kiezen als er al voldoende en vooral ook bruikbare producten beschikbaar zijn. Enige nieuwe 'noviteit' is de integratie met de BlackBerry Enterprise Server die standaard beschikbaar is. Ik volg het geloof ik niet meer helemaal... Anyway, mocht je er toch nog iets van willen weten, follow me...

Als RIM niet oppast wordt hun pushed e-mail technologie nog eens een wereld standaard (als dat uberhaubt mogelijk is in de ICT wereld). Nokia komt binnenkort al uit met een Blackberry enabled telefoon, 18 december tekende Palm een contract met RIM en net voor de kerst heeft ook Sony Ericsson getekend voor de RIM technologie.

There is a workaround to support Intellisync synchronization with Lotus Notes R6.0 that can be used in the interim with the v3.6 SP1 Desktop release until the v3.6 SP3 Desktop release is available.
Our QA team has done testing with this workaround and found an issue related to Recurring Tasks as follows:
Duplicates added to handheld for every recurring task from Notes 6.5. For each recurring task, 2 tasks appear on the handheld after the sync. The correct recurring task is synched over.
The brief summary of this workaround is as follows:

1. Rename the existing Lotus Notes R6.5 "nstrings.dll" to "nstrings.old"
2. Find a "nstrings.dll" from a Lotus Notes R5.0/R6.0 client and copy it to the Lotus Notes R6.5 program directory
3. Shut down both the Desktop Manager and the Lotus Notes R6.5 client on the target machine 
4. Go into Desktop Manager - Intellisync - Configure PIM and select the Lotus Notes 5.0/6.0 connector for the PIM's required
5. Put the "nstrings.old" file back in place as the "nstrings.dll" in the Lotus Notes R6.5 program directory
